This approach shows professionalism, respects the reviewer’s perspective, and opens the door for resolution without airing specifics publicly.

Here are some sample responses for different types of responses to negative business reviews:

1. Hair Salon Review Negative Review

COPPA Regulations and Youtube Kids App - Not a Huge Problem

In the United States we have advertising regulations for every industry.

Do you know why I can’t say that the soap I make in my backyard will take 20 years off your face and beauty marks. Advertising Regulations.

Do you know why doctors cannot claim to cure patients only to help “relieve your suffering.” Advertising Regulations.

Do you know why your financial advisor cannot guarantee results on investments? Advertising Regulations (and the SEC too.)

Advertising Regulations have been in the marketing industry for ages. They help keep consumers like you and me form buying that FAKE soap that might or might not make us look younger. You cannot make fake claims, you cannot exaggerate what your product does, and have to follow strict rules when advertising to kids.

Feel safe yet?

What is COPPA and Why is it Keeping me off of Youtube Kids App?

The specific advertising regulation that protects kids is the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, aka COPPA. A 1998 law that wasn’t getting the respect it deserved. And So the federal government sued google, the owners of youtube, for advertising to kids! IN a settlement Google agreed to pay $170 million to the FTC.

Now what will youtube do?

Here is more about the compliance. Youtube is preventing advertisers from running ads to kids. Even tho youtube’s income backbone comes from ads. These two juxtaposed ideas work because of the new youtube kids app.

If a video or channel is considered “made for kids” (yes, your kids playing in the pool is a kids video), then youtube will limit the videos engagement online:

  • many channel features are restricted

  • disable comments

  • no sponsorship or product endorsements (have you been ignoring the required disclosure checkbox is in the dashboard?)

  • no donations or live contributions to the channel

  • . . . more blocked features are listed below

Still Works - Up Next Suggested YOUTUBE Video

But what does work is up next. And you can make your videos appear in up next to help them get more views.

Even with all these restrictions - we help clients grow their channels.

Contact Joanne to learn more.

What COPPA Means for Youtube Creators?

Well, first of all keep creating your videos. Kids appropriate content is getting views every day and not just in the United States. Remember that COPPA is a U.S. Regulation but youtube is a global audience.

I hope we made you scratch your head! 🙀

That’s right - if you have a flare for some things culturally specific, add some international keywords to your video titles and you might get some increased traction outside the US. It’s another way we increase videos views.

There are a few youtube creators who made channels specifically targeting other countries where they regularly optimize their videos for those languages keywords.

Some youtube channels created country specific channels to expand keywords targeting and get more views (and income)

Some youtube channels created country specific channels to expand keywords targeting and get more views (and income)

Why target an international audience on youtube?

It has to do with how youtube and google use their algorithms to show content to viewers. And unfortunately the algorithms is just learning to be bi-lingual or tri-lingual (come on machine learning . . . here we come).

Until youtube can catch up in programming - translating content is a great way to get more views.

TIP: If you don’t want to manage multiple channels - then creating playlists with specific target language keywords is a good start.

COPPA Regulations and Youtube Kids App - Not a Huge Problem

How COPPA Regulations Affect Youtube and Create Youtube Kids //

In our video series - we have a collection of short video under 1:00 minute each - tackling your youtube kids questions. (Thanks for all those emails folks!)

Watch the video where we explain how COPPA laws might not affect video monetization. In this episode we talk about COPPA law regulations which led to the creation of the youtube kids app. Don’t worry about those setting that require you to mark your channel as made for kids. We uncover some of the ways you can still grow your channel and monetize.

Click Play.

What’s Next for Youtube Kids App?

Until youtube can figure out what to do about the suggested video “up next feature” - then youtube kids app is locked. No new content to be added by anyone.

BUT - You shouldn’t want to be in the app anyway.

You audience is on youtube. Kids watch youtube.com on mom and dad’s phone, when grandpa is baby sitting, when they are up at night on their own devices, or the neighbor comes over. Kids are on youtube. The YT kids app only semi-allowed google to settle the lawsuit.

That means

  1. keep pumping out your ORIGINAL family friendly content so kids will binge watch your channel.

  2. Set your videos as made for kids (or youtube can delete your channel and all its content for violating the measures they have in place).

  3. And grow your audience. You can unlock monetization and be a youtube extraordinaire.

How's Business? Its Slow. What Decision Makers Are Talking About for Business Self Care. Covid-19 Innovation

Too often as business owners we get caught up in the day-to-day and can lose sight of our business goals. The basic reason why we started a business in the first place. What was our passion? What was the direction we wanted to take? Where did we want to be in five years?

Recently, when I spoke at a conference for #SoloCEO and entrepreneur like leaders, with business life coach Gail Golden taking the stage. Her message for self care is often heard and the advice for Business Self Care is priceless.

What resonated with the audience, and with me, was the Business Self Care tip. “Take two days during the year and dedicate them to your business.”

A year ago this felt impossible. 48-hours away from everything email, voicemail, design, and website SEO, to “think about” my business?

Thanks to covid- we all have a little extra time on our hands!

That means get away from your office, step away from the brand, and take time to dedicate two days to thinking about your business.

How’s Business? It’s A Little Slow. What Decision Makers Are Talking About Self Care for Their Business.

Covid-19 Innovation

Take a pause, because after all things are slow, and let’s take quick review of your business. This includes turning on your out of the office notice. Because you’re dedicating yourself to growth.

COVID-19 has caused somewhat of a “forced get away” for business owners. We might work from home, or still go into the empty office. But no matter where we work in this New Way of Doing Business (and after you have already told customers about HOW you can still do business) . . . . days are slow.

Consistently from clients I speak with, owner to owner tell me the same thing: “Customers are saving their pennies,” new ideas and strategies are all put on hold.

How do you keep your business alive during times like these?

Use this rare allotment of time for your “business self care.” It not about you. It’s self care for your brand. Your brand that you have taken the time to nurture and grow this far.

Innovate.

Think.

Change.

It’s time to think about business.

On a recent social distance weekend my daughter fishing at the lake while mommy thought about How Is Business? Its Slow. What business owners ARE TALKING ABOUT FOR BUSINESS SELF CARE. Covid-19 Innovation

On a recent social distancing weekend get away with the family, I took the time for Business Self Care. While my darling daughter didn’t catch anything, she did keep trying. She kept re-casting and trying new bait. It was innovation happening right in front of me. Thinking about the problem. And trying to change. She is a Little Genius i would say

Business Self Care: Innovate

Do you know why you’ve suddenly seen a spike in advertising for face masks? Because people are innovating their business. Change is happening at a rapid pace.

Stay at home moms are using their sewing talents to make masks and sell online. Sometimes it’s just on their Facebook page to friends.

Business Self Care: Think

Other companies had to quickly reinvent themselves, like trade show management firms who used to build giant displays for conference center shows. In our event management experience we have witnessed these brands like Nimlock who have completely seen business tank in 2020.

So when all the contracts canceled for trade show displays, owners had to think about their re-brand. How to survive and use the products or production for something different. These companies quickly pivoted to “making plastic barriers” for the office space. Partners like Nimlock were quick to produce new office environments.

From Starbucks to shared workspaces, plastic dividers are all the rage. Now when employees are ready to go back to the office, they have the various tools that they need to help stay safe. Including plastic partitions, privacy windows, and other new ways that business owners have had to think about when getting back to the office.

Business Self Care: Change

When your business is a service, and not a product, these covid-19 times can be a little more challenging. When you sell ideas, the buyers aren’t available for appointments and things can slow down sometimes to a dead stop.

This is the time to re-invest in yourself. Think of a change, small yet intentional.

We’re going to list a couple of questions that we’ve been chatting about with clients and how to think about when it comes to business self care to innovate, think and change the new way of doing business. Rethinking the strategy is what we do.

Let’s get started.

Couple of Questions for Business Self Care: to help you Spend Time with Your business

  • In a new Covid world, at least for the next two years or so, what services can I offer to clients that they need?

  • Is there something that I can take online, including things like the tools are used to offer customers in person.

  • It’s time to add that you new idea as a page on your website, and offer your services online as a consultation package, documents for sale, and other tools that you find yourself or clients in need of.

Top 5 Things business owners are thinking about to improve, innovate and keep their business moving forward

1 Don’t stop advertising

In traditional Joanne Klee Marketing style, we take about what NOT to do. As business owners we get loads of what TO DO advice. But there are some always DON’T DOs too.

Cost versus Benefit::

The various movements in the industry are opening the doors for small businesses to have a chance to advertise affordably during daytime hours. PPC and Google ads is seeing a spike in small business advertisements. Your niche is very possibly open and available at a lower rate. Yes Facebook is showing more ads because large advertisers have temporarily pulled out of the ad game. That leave more room at a competitive rate for your brand!

2. Let the Internet work for you 24/7.

Stay Alive Online. Keep yourself online, and keep yourself relevant. Continuing to advertise allows you to appear in search results when customers are starting to look back for the services that you offer.

3. More About Budget

Finances. Where can I cut costs in my business? Where can I invest?

Yes spending money now is a good thing because prices are low and you can negotiate contracts aggressively. Banks are lending at a significantly lower rate. So if you have the capital now maybe the time, before the regulations get tighter as the covid-crisis continues.

4. Digital Tools for Business

A little management support for decision makers:: As the every day decision maker what can you do to make the day-to-day life of your business run a little smoother? Maybe it is time to look at how you can automate some services? Get your forms online. Set up an online appointment calendar… add a service page to your website. Or refresh that website!

Is it time to invest in customer relationship management? Send a “thinking of you during these times” merchandise. Let customers know you are open for business. Is it time to set up for an automated answering service?

*Again the cost of these things may be significantly lower because business is slow for many agencies. Set up costs may be significantly lower.

5. Re-Dedicate Your Time Slots

Business growth. What are things that irritate you about your business? What are things that you can do better or more time efficient? Are you investing enough time with your family? Are you spending enough time on the business? Now the ultimate question, do you feel balanced.

Obviously there’s no such thing as balance. We constantly shift gears from one business finance decision thing to another marketing strategy. But maybe now is the time to think about how you pivot from business to personal.

At my house we’ve gotten away for a few short socially distanced VRBO weekends fun trips with the family, Because of the new way of doing business, I make sure that I’m not checking email until Sunday night and really dedicated to family time.

Sometimes it’s just the way we think about dedicating our time that is the biggest burden as a decision maker and entrepreneur.

Google hangouts is a virtual meeting tool that is easy to use with no sign in required. So how can users create a private meeting?

When you are the host (organizer) of a google hangout, once your meeting starts google send your requests. Anyone who was directly emailed the invite to your google hangout (usually scheduled thru the Google calendar), will automatically be allowed to enter the meeting.

If a user wants to enter your web hangout and DID NOT receive an invitation from you, then google asks your permission to let them in the meeting.

Lunchtime Video Break Healthcare Heros Chicago Residents on Balconies Sing Make Noise Lights Covid19

I recently took my family to the Chicago daily evening show of support for our healthcare workers. This is where we pull together as a city to show support of others.

How can we support healthcare strangers who we so desperately need? It’s by making some noise!

What does it mean for my website when Flash Player will no longer be Supported By Google and Internet Browsers?

Over the last few years, Flash has become less common. Now a days, websites are migrating to newer technologies which are faster and more power-efficient than Flash. And who doesn’t want a more powerful website?

Your business should look great online. . . And if you are not online, your competition will be!

- Joanne Klee Marketing

WHY IS FLASH PLAYER GOING AWAY?

Flash player is becoming extinct. It requires users to make too many manual adjustments in their browser.

The Adobe Flash plug-in lets you hear and see Flash audio and video content on Chrome on your computer. However in order for the features to work, about 17% of chrome users needed to adjust their browsers settings to manually allow each site to run flash (this is a drop from 80% of users 20 years ago, it was popular when I started Joanne Klee Marketing). However, google would not save this setting because of the harm allowance of flash.

“Only allow Flash to run on websites that you trust. Some websites might use Adobe Flash Player to harm your computer.”

- Google

IS FLASH PLAYER HARMFUL TO MY WEBSITE?

Some websites might use Adobe Flash Player to harm your computer. More current technologies allow website developers like Joanne Klee Marketing to update you website to run safe content, videos, share documents and more. Hackers are not the only reason why flash is going away, also having an attractive website that works properly All. The. Time. is another.

WHAT KIND OF FLASH PLAYER PROBLEMS ARE AFFECTING MY CUSTOMERS?

If Flash isn't working or you see the following error messages, you are losing customers!

Some common problems your customers can experience if you have flash player on your website include the following error messages:

  • Adobe Flash has been blocked because it's out of date

  • Couldn’t load plug-in

  • The following plug-ins were blocked on this page

  • This plug-in is not supported

  • A plug-in (Shockwave Flash) isn't responding

  • display reads: a "site wants to Run Flash" prompt which you need to allow

  • users need to MANUALLY CLICK to add the site to the allow list for Flash

  • Chrome DOES NOT SAVE SETTINGS. Which means customers need to add flash each time they log onto your website = ANNOYING!

google chrome setting flash player to block or allow

Customer do Not Want to Do More Work Using Your Website!

Customers on your website then need to try the troubleshooting steps below. If Flash isn't working or you see the following error messages, you are losing customers!

WHAT DOES FLASH PLAYER BEING DISABLED MEAN FOR MY WEBSITE?

Over the last few years, Flash has become less common. Websites are migrating to newer technologies, which are faster and more power-efficient than Flash.

They’re also more secure, so you can be safer while surfing websites, shopping, banking, or reading sensitive documents.

Since over 70% of internet use in on a mobile device, these newer technologies also work on both mobile and desktop, so you can visit your favorite site anywhere. So ultimately, what does it mean for your website when Flash Player will no longer be supported by google and internet browsers?

What does it mean for my website when Flash Player will no longer be Supported By Google and Internet Browsers?

Chrome is the most secure browser in the world. From google “Advanced technology like site isolation, sandboxing, and predictive phishing protection keep you safe from security threats.” This means that google cannot allow untrustworthy tools like flash player to run. Adobe announced they are no longer supporting flash player updates - so there goes the security.

You can read more About Goole Chrome and Flashplayer here direct from google.

What are other internet browsers that have disabled flash player?

Google’s chrome browser is not the only internet browser to disable flash player. Other browsers including Mozilla disabled Flash in Firefox. Firefox does not include a native Flash solution like Chrome.

How Do I Fix Flash on My Website?

While there is no single answer to how we actually adjust flash player on your website, we do have website developer tools that let us fix your website specifically.

We can help Fix Flash Player!

  1. First, we will run a quick review your website. We will assess how flash player is used, what website content relies on flash, and take inventory.

  2. Then we can make some recommendations. Usually it is as easy as an on-page website update. We can usually make these adjustments quickly.

  3. If you have audio or video that runs on flash, we will implement newer technologies or plug ins to all your content to work on your website.

  4. Want a quote? Contact Joanne Klee Marketing to get Flash Player fixed on your website

If you still have questions about Your Website and Flash Player, let us know.

What restaurants and business can do to attract customers during the global covid-19 crisis

I recently discovered our local sushi place is still open! But they do not have a google listing and I had to go to their website to see their message that they are still offering take-out.

QUICK TIP: Business and restaurants, don’t make it so difficult for customers to know if you are open and offering take-out.

Let’s walk thru some quick tips to make sure customers know your place offers take-out, delivery or catering.

We help small business get access to the same great marketing corporation use.

Here are a couple of easy to do tips to let customers know your restaurant is open for business.

These tips apply to healthcare practices and business too. Click to learn more about Google Special Announcements for healthcare here.

CUSTOMERS WANT YOUR BUSINESS (EATS!)

Search Increase for Take Out Food, Restaurant Delivery and Catering //

Think with Google posted a recent release this week a “restaurant search trend update showing that restaurant delivery and restaurant take out is the #1 search in the last 3 weeks. This is a change from Restaurants near me over the last 5 years (Google data, U.S. 2014–2019). Let’s take this data and turn it into action to advertise your restaurant.

What does the google search covid-19 change mean for my restaurant?

Customers are looking for take-out. Even in this time of crisis, we are eating out delivery style. If your restaurant is offering take out, or delivery, we have to put that information online. NOW! Google search traffic has increased 285% for take-out across the U.S. Additionally search interest for “is food delivery safe” has increased 650% across the U.S. since the beginning of March (Google Trends March 1, 2020–March 24, 2020).

What Can Restaurants and Business Do to Attract Customers During the Global Crisis

How do I get my restaurant delivery information online?

There are 3 quick ways to get your restaurant to show up in search results for take-out, catering and delivery.

Make sure to update your information anywhere you appear online. The top two online places to update information is:

(1.) your website

(2.) your google listing

(3.) then, communicate with customers (yeah it’s email)

(4.) More Insights . . . see our post on Coronavirus crisis communication tips for what business can tell customers here.

We believe in providing business like yours with Marketing Made Easy. You get access to the same great marketing that big brands get, we are your on demand marketing partner.

  1. Update your Website: Restaurant Hours and Take Out, Delivery or Catering Options //

Restaurant Website Update for Covid-19:

✓ Create a NEW web page dedicated to Take out, Delivery or Catering.

✓ Include keywords for your take out and delivery service. This should include your location and restaurant name. The basic set up is a sentence that has your brand + food category + location. For example “our restaurant name is serving sushi in Chicago.”

✓ Include keywords for your brand + location and service. For example: “chicago gets take-out at our chicago location”

TIP: It may seem repetitive, but this is how we ‘program your website’ to help google get people specifically to your location.

If you need help to get this update done, contact us.

Google is still the number one search provider for restaurants. Even Yelp can’t compete. They have merged their Google Places service into Google My Business.

  • Update your information

  • Include order pick up, delivery and catering is available.

  • Add a GMB Post that you Offer Take Out and Delivery!

  • Don’t have a Google My Business Index Card? See below.

  • You probably have a listing and don’t even know it.

ALREADY HAVE A GOOGLE BUSINESS LISTING?

Let’s Update your Business Listing. Here’s How:

Google My Business (GMB) lets you tell customers about your new hours or temporary closure (which no longer affects your search ranking). Also, use Google Posts to give updates during the coronavirus crisis.

There are a number of sections in GMB that you can use, including:

  • Temporarily Closed & Business Hours

  • Add take out delivery and catering. Google is rolling these our nation wide.

  • Contact Number update

  • Limited Edits: Description, Category, and Business Name may have limited edits at this time - due to google staff

  • Questions and Answers (On March 20- due to the unprecedented COVID-19 situation Google has temporarily removed the Q&A feature and it is now unavailable)

  • Google Posts (NEW: COVID-19 update post type)

TIP TEMPORARILY CLOSED OR NEW HOURS: If your business is open with reduced or changed hours for a temporarily, use Special Hours on those days to override the regular business hours. You can find Special Hours below your regular hours in the Info tab of your GMB dashboard.

Temporarily close your business covid-19 update in google search

NEED A GOOGLE MY BUSINESS PAGE?

For businesses who have not claimed there google page, you can significantly improve your search results with this index card.

How to claim your business on google my business covid-19 updates

How To Get your Google Business Page:

Any business that gets searched, google automatically creates a listing. You need to “claim” that listing.

✓ Click the blue OWN THIS BUSINESS link to claim the listing. This allows you to start controlling what information is added about your business.

✓ Update your business hours and information

✓ Include photos of your product and storefront (up to 10). Additional photos can be uploaded by google users/customers.

✓ Do your best on the details, the Google My Business EDIT FUNCTION is temporarily disabled.

3. Email // Communicate with Customers that Delivery or Take Out is Available

Share the news through email.

“ We’re Open for Take Out ”

“ Let' Us Take Care of Dinner Tonight (delivery) “

Once you have updated your website menu page with take out and pick up information, next tell your customers. Email lists get this done!

Link to the website menu in your email - this is quick access so customers don’t have to search to see if you are open!

We wrote a post about the type of information customers want to know during covid-19. You already know how you are staying in business, then tell your customers with coronavirus communication.

MORE ABOUT GOOGLE REVIEWS AND QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS DURING COVID-19 //

TIP: GOOGLE REVIEWS, QUESTIONS AND RESPOND: During this crisis, google has TURNED OFF the ability to write a review. During the time of crisis, and due to less staff in google offices, the ability to leave a “google review” is turned off.

Writing a review IS POSSIBLE, however the review is hidden, and will not post publicly. Responding to review is also temporarily unavailable.

Customers may still add a review, however when they click post a message pops up with “Your contribution may be delayed at this time.”

For business owners the ability to respond to reviews is unavailable at this time as well.

Questions & Answers have been temporarily “removed”. Any Q&A’s on a Business Profile are no longer visible or showing up. You can’t ask a question as a user or business owner.

Image of my Google Review during covid-19 your contribution is delayed at this time

TIP NEW GOOGLE TAKE OUT DELIVERY ATTRIBUTE: In the upcoming weeks google will add new attributes including “Delivery” and “Pickup” and no contact options including “Curbside pickup” and “No-contact Delivery”. We will keep you posted on our social media Facebook and Twitter channels when this rolls out nationwide.
